Ground source heat pumps (GSHP) are pipes that contain antifreeze and liquid installed deep in the earth or in a borehole that extracts heat from the ground. The warmth then passes through a heat exchanger, increasing the temperature of the liquid before entering the property.
GSHP’s can warm up water, underfloor heating systems (UFH) and radiators.
Air source heat pumps are similar to ground source heat pumps. Instead of bringing up heat from the ground, air source heat pumps draw heat from the air surrounding your property. These units can heat radiators, water and underfloor heating systems.

One of the major benefits of air source heat pumps is just how quickly they can be installed. While the amount of time that it takes to fit and install an air or ground heat pump system is dependant upon the size and model of the system being installed, it can take very little time to get them up and running.
Most air source heat pumps can be installed within roughly 3–5 days.

If you are a homeowner then under the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive, the UK government will now pay towards air and ground source heat pumps. This scheme will cover up to two thirds of your costs, up to a maximum of £5000.
Additionally, if you or one of the people living in your household receives certain benefits, then the grant can cover all of your costs – up to £10,000. This grant is also available for landlords looking to cut down on their properties’ energy bills.
